Clinisys and Socrates Announce Strategic Partnership for Enhanced Electronic Lab Ordering Integration in GP Practices
Clinisys is excited to announce a strategic partnership with Socrates, a part of Lanas, aimed at transforming laboratory test ordering and delivery for GP practices. This collaboration will enable GP practices using Socrates to seamlessly order laboratory tests electronically and send them directly to hospital labs utilising Clinisys ICE.
The new electronic lab ordering integration provides general practitioners (GPs) with the capability to electronically request blood tests and other laboratory investigations directly within the Socrates platform. Orders are securely transmitted into the hospital laboratory systems that use the Clinisys ICE solution, with results returned electronically through established Healthlink workflows. This creates a fully closed-loop process from order to result, significantly enhancing operational efficiency for GP practices, hospital laboratories, and patients alike.
Historically, many GP practices have relied on cumbersome paper forms and manual procedures, which delayed the processing of test requests. This innovative integration eliminates those outdated steps, streamlining the ordering process and allowing healthcare providers to focus more on patient care rather than administrative burdens.
With Clinisys ICE being installed at a number of hospitals throughout Ireland, the Socrates integration is available now. This ensures a smoother experience for GPs and patients, fostering a more effective healthcare delivery system.
“This partnership with Clinisys embodies our vision of simplifying everyday tasks for GP practices,” said Eileen Byrne, Managing Director at Lanas. “Our collaboration aims to remove friction from the lab ordering process, ultimately allowing practices to dedicate more time to patient care and less to administrative tasks.”
From the perspective of hospital laboratories, this integration enhances the consistency and structure of lab requests, further improving laboratory workflows and response times by removing data entry bottlenecks.
This approach also aligns with the principles set out in the Health Service Executive’s recently published Digital Health Framework for Ireland. This integration furthers the drive towards seamless, safe, secure, and connected digital health systems, where clinicians are able to share information safely enabling high quality, connected care and services, which are better coordinated around their patient’s needs.
Simon Hurst, UK and Ireland Managing Director from Clinisys said,
“The connectivity between hospital laboratory services and GP systems such as Socrates, enabled through Clinisys ICE, marks an important step forward for both our organisations and our customers. Already proven in the UK, where 91% of GPs have access to ICE, this interoperability enhances safety and efficiency in lab test ordering through inbuilt demand management for GPs. It also strengthens the digital connection between primary and secondary care nationwide.”
By reinforcing the commitment to digital health integration, this partnership signifies a significant step towards a more connected and efficient healthcare system in Ireland. As both companies continue to build on this collaboration, their shared vision focuses on enhancing patient outcomes and operational effectiveness across the healthcare continuum.”
