As a result of its strategic acquisitions and mergers, the Clinisys of today is the #1 player in the global laboratory healthcare informatics space, Clinisys has ~24% global market share, according to Signify Research: Laboratory Information Systems – World, 2025.
Since our inception, our exceptional team of dedicated and talented lab informatics specialists have invested decades building the expertise that today makes the labs of over 4,000 customers around the world run efficiently and productively.

1890: Roper Technologies formed
CliniSys’ parent company, Roper Technologies, now included in the Nasdaq 100, S&P 500, and Fortune 1000, is founded by George D. Roper in 1890, primarily as a manufacturer of home appliances, pumps, and other industrial products.

1979: Sunquest Information Systems founded
Sunquest, our former sister company under Roper Technologies (prior to our 2022 merger), was established by technologists Jim Peebles and Bob Morrison and pathologist Dr Sidney Goldblatt. Sunquest installs its first lab two years later in 1981.

1987: HORIZON LIMS established
Horizon LIMS was founded in 1987 and acquired by Roper Technologies in 2022. It was originally known as Chemware. HORIZON launched its first on-prem LIMS in 1991 and its cloud-based LIMS in 2016.

1988: A new era for pathology services
CliniSys was founded by William Woodard and a group of pathology specialists passionate about providing better software for pathology services. Over the next few decades, through strategic moves, CliniSys became Europe’s largest LIS supplier.
Our story: Breaking new ground

1991: Profitable hospital outreach
Atlas was founded in 1991, acquired by Roper in 2015, and merged with Sunquest in 2018. Atlas launched an outreach solution which helps hospitals become more productive and profitable by accelerating reimbursements, reducing write-offs and test leakage, and improving test turnaround times.

1992: Breakthrough innovation
Building on our strong private sector pathology expertise, CliniSys delivered our first specialist laboratory information system (LIS) to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS).

1994: Enterprise-level LIMS software
Technology consulting company ApolloLIMS was founded in 1994, and became part of the CliniSys family in 2022. It was originally known as Common Cents Systems. ApolloLIMS launched its toxicology LIMS in 1996 and its cloud-based LIMS in 2012.

1998: Promium is founded
CliniSys’ most recent acquisition, Promium was founded in 1998, and became part of the CliniSys family in 2023. It was originally known as Cequel Systems. Promium was established to provide LIMS support to environmental, water, and wastewater laboratories.
The industry leaders driving our business forward
Our executive leadership team features senior industry experts with decades of experience delivering laboratory solutions across the world.
Our story: Accelerating growth
In the years that followed, we established many partnerships, including one with Siemens, to deliver Point of Care Testing, and through further strategic acquisitions, we extended our presence across Europe.

2000s: Sustained growth in Europe
With a substantial customer base in both the public and private sectors, CliniSys acquired MIPS and Torex Laboratory Systems in 2005 thus becoming Europe’s largest LIS supplier. MIPS later acquired MCS-LDS in 2015 and Cointec in 2019.

2011: Enhanced traceability
WorldCare was launched in 2011, our Logistics Management Solution, extending our ability to offer end-to-end sample traceability.

2012–2016: A round of acquisitions
Our growth trajectory explodes/escalates with the acquisitions of Sunquest in 2012, Atlas in 2015, and CliniSys in 2016 by Roper Technologies.
Our story: Adapting to a new world
Today, Clinisys is still focused on helping to enable better health outcomes and helping make communities safer through innovation in diagnostics and laboratory informatics technology. Clinisys Laboratory Solution, the latest LIS/LIMS informatics launch from Clinisys, helps organisations move beyond the physical laboratory across nine industries.

2020s: Adapting to global challenges
Responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, CliniSys developed innovative solutions to increase test capacity at a nationwide level across key countries in Europe to help tackle the evolving situation. Multiple systems evolved to support labs and mobile testing units with COVID-19.

2020s: Sustained innovation
In addition, we continued innovating to extend our capabilities in providing solutions supporting areas such as tissue typing and newborn screening.

Early 2022: Start of a new era
CliniSys made two further acquisitions, HORIZON Lab Systems and ApolloLIMS in 2022. Soon after, Roper Technologies merged CliniSys with Sunquest, uniting the five companies under one business and rebranding under the name Clinisys. One more LIMS acquisition was made when the newly branded Clinisys brought Promium into the family. Clinisys then launched the Clinisys Laboratory Solution (CLS) for Scientific industries in 2023 and is continuing to expand across new industries.
