HSJ Award – Best Technology Partnership with the NHS

Clinisys is excited to announce that Clinisys won the award for “Best Technology Partnership with the NHS” at last night’s prestigious HSJ Partnership Awards 2026! This success was due to real teamwork with our partners Health and Social Care Northern Ireland (HSCNI), Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) and Business Services Organisation (BSO) and is recognition for the dedication and hard work of all involved in delivering a national LIMS solution for Northern Ireland.

The selection criteria and the judging was stringent, and we had stiff competition in our category, but the scale of the Northern Ireland Pathology Information Management System project and the true partnership approach really stood out from the crowd.

This project was a real partnership between Laboratory, Trust leadership, local IT and our dedicated UK teams. Only through cross-trust collaboration, involving laboratory staff from across the five Trusts, BSO, and Clinisys could a successful deployment be achieved.

The Core LIMS (ClinisysTM WinPath) was fully rolled out across 13 hospitals, 5 territorial health and social care trusts and NIBTS in 18 months and under budget!

To give you an idea of the scale of the project, the pathology service of Northern Ireland serves a population of 1.9 million, carries out in excess of 56 million tests per annum by around 1,615 staff across 5 Trusts. The programme replaced seven disparate and ageing laboratory systems to deliver a single centralised WinPath LIMS platform to support HSCNI’s system wide digital transformation programme across the country. One of the key and specific design areas for this project was the Blood Production and Tracking Project (BPaT). The Clinisys WinPath deployment in the local Trusts and within the National Blood Transfusion Service (NIBTS) will enable the project to deliver “Vein to Vein” tracking from doner to recipient and all steps in between..”

Simon Hurst, Clinisys UK and Ireland Managing Director

“What a fantastic achievement that demonstrates the strength of the partnership between Business Services Organisation (BSO) , HSCNI and the Clinisys UKI team. I couldn’t be prouder of the UKI services team for the delivery of the national LIMS and the development of an outstanding customer relationship. Felice Di Rienzo and Tony Oliver, you and your team deserved that win… I am delighted with the whole of my UKI team who supported this project. We look forward to the next challenge the Business Services Organisation (BSO) and the HSCNI team set us.”
